Redefining Beauty
March 27, 2019

In 2016 Sabrina de Paiva became the first Afro-Brazilian to win Miss São Paulo. She entered the beauty contest after her then six-year-old sister said she wanted to bleach her skin and straighten her hair. De Paiva wanted her sister to have a reference for beauty who looked like her, so she joined the contest to show her sister a different way of looking at beauty. To her surprise, she won.
